IRL Still life.

GRADUATION PROJECT 02
DESIGN ACADEMY EINDHOVEN

Being Dutch but born and raised in France, I am creating an ode to the Netherlands and to the colour orange. Drawing inspiration from renowned Dutch painters like Rembrandt and van der Helst, this series of objects is creating a 'real life still life'.

My fascination with the color gradient and symbolic meaning of oranges in Dutch paintings sparked my interest in this project. The objects are a representation of these oranges, which symbolize the House of Orange. My time in the Netherlands is captured like a still life painting would freeze a specific moment in time. It is a way to hold on to my memories and remind my of my heritage like the fruit on a painting.

This serie of objects is creating a composition with a chiaroscuro effect, bringing it from 2D to 3D by incorporating the contrasts between light and dark directly into the objects. The gradients are intergraded into the curved material and amplified by the layers and colors of the multiplex wood which adds depth and dimension.

The composition come to life through the interaction of artificial and natural light coming through the curtain, but also the movement of the chair and the objects on the table, as well as time passing by on the clock.
